The Story
Roll With The Tide is a co-write with Donny Brewer that was written at Casa Tortooga House Concerts in Bonita, CA a couple of day prior to Donny's performance there. The first line of the song came from an archive of song ideas he had, and I liked it. We sat in the backyard by the pool and started working from there. We were able to establish that the "Cancel my subscription" line would be the start of the verses. At first, it seems that it would be a relationship song, but it started speaking to me as an opportunity to address the way the media was spinning things, as well as how certain businesses were establishing the "subscription-based" model, rather than letting us download and own computer-based programs anymore. The answer and theme of the song is true escape-ism with, "One good wave goodbye..." It seems like it would only make sense to join us, and "Roll With The Tide".
Lyrics
Cancel my subscription I’m done with your issues Don’t want to hear your story anymore Just another chapter I keep reading when I’m on the crapper Same BS I've seen before Cancel my subscription I’m cutting the cord Don't want to be programmed anymore Just another opinion to keep me living like a minion I’m closing my account and opening up the door Cause my point of view is by the ocean Just want the simple kind of life All that it takes is one good wave goodbye And I roll with the tide Cancel my subscription I’m done with your service Don’t wanna keep on paying anymore Far as I can see you’re playing a game of monopoly And I rather be collecting sand dollars along the shore Cause my point of view is by the ocean Just want the simple kind of life All that it takes is one good wave goodbye And I roll with the tide Don’t wanna hear ‘bout politics My stance on the topic is Laid back in the tropics With no worries on my mind My point of view is by the ocean Just want the simple kind of life All that it takes is one good wave goodbye And I roll with the tide Just roll with the tide I just roll with it roll with it roll with it I just roll with it roll with the tide I just roll with it roll with it roll with it I just roll with it roll with the tide Cancel my subscription
