The Story
This song is all about kicking off your shoes, dancing, laughing, and enjoying life in the summertime. The lyrics were inspired by my childhood and then a few years down the road, being a mom and getting caught up in a song...dancing and laughing w/ my daughter in the kitchen...barefoot!
Lyrics
I was raised out in the country Between the corn and hay We’d listen for the sound of the whippoorwill In the big ol’ yard where I used to play Mama’d be on her piano Daddy’d sing and clap Life was a whole lotta simple Ain’t one little thing I’d change about that CHORUS We’re barefootin’ dancin’ in the kitchen Barefootin’ while the music played Barefootin’ ain’t nothin’ better Than kickin’ off your shoes on a good ol’ day Barefootin’ in a summer dress Barefootin’ spinnin’ round and round Barefootin’ not a care or a worry I could use a barefootin’ day right now We always had a garden We planted every spring That cottonwood tree made good shade And held up my old wooden swing There was a muddy pond with catfish Behind a chicken house full of eggs That we’d all jump in with an inner tube And the heat would float away CHORUS These days I’m a wife and a mama With a little girl of my own Sometimes I’ll turn the music on And the next thing that you know CHORUS We’re barefootin’ dancin’ in the kitchen Barefootin’ while the music plays Barefootin’ ain’t nothin’ better Than kickin’ off your shoes on a good ol’ day Barefootin’ in a summer dress Barefootin’ spinnin’ round and round Barefootin’ not a care or a worry I could use a barefootin’ day right now I could use a barefootin’ day right now I could use a barefootin’ day right now
