The Story

I started writing this song back around April of 2024, It started in my living room, with a guitar in a hands, as most of my songs do. I was playing a chord progression I thought was nice which ultimately ended up being the chorus chord progression, and I wrote whatever came to mind with the notes that I was playing on my guitar. A lot of times when I start writing a song, not much thought or the presence of an initial idea is really there, i’m just writing whatever my mind feels like it needs to talk about that day, and on that particular day It happened to be the chorus of what is now ‘Reasons’. I recorded a few voice notes of me playing it acoustic into my phone, I ended up writing a verse and pretty much had half of a song written and I just let it sit in my phone for 2 years. 2026 comes around and I met Samantha Vicha, she came up to me and we had a conversation, she mentioned she sang and wrote music and we ended up connecting, she came to my studio and I was thinking of what we could work on, I scrolled though my voice memos to find those recordings I did of the song, I played it for her and she loved it, from there she wrote her verse and the song was complete, everything else in the song was already written from 2 years prior and now all it needed was for me to do what I do best on the production and make something beautiful to fit the vibe of the lyrics I was writing. The lyrics that I wrote themselves aren’t about something or someone specific, I honestly wrote them from just moments or certain memories over my life or taken from stories or another people’s experiences that i’ve encountered, and I write a nice story and paint a relatable picture of loving someone and the memories that can come with that. Ended up being a really beautiful song and i’m happy Samantha was able to add to the beauty of it.

Lyrics

Verse 1: Jacob Engelking Now I remember the feeling of comfort Hold me and sit under hand knitted covers While the sun sinks below with the colors What a view Then you had told me could we stay forever Watch as the clouds form and change with the weather You should know since the day that I met you I'm part of you Chorus: Jacob Engelking When I'm holding someone I'm holding you When I start to have my doubts You made all that darkness blue When you see the sunset I see it too While you watch the light fade out I'm watching you Nobody told me this would be different Nobody told me it'd feel so strong You give me reasons to go on living You give me reasons to get this far You're my heart Verse 2: Samantha Vicha Sit by the shore as we quietly listen I'll hold you forever, God is my witness The same that I've been only totally different Because of you Laying in your arms While we share one breath We reminisce on the times that we first met Kiss me slowly and know me Chorus: both I'll rest my head on your chest When I'm holding someone I'm holding you When I start to have my doubts You made all that darkness blue When you see the sunset I see it too While you watch the light fade out I'm watching you Nobody told me this would be different Nobody told me it'd feel so strong You give me reasons to go on living You give me reasons to get this far You're my heart
