Born in Durham, North Carolina and raised in the Panama Canal Zone, he became a celebrated Nashville songwriter whose compositions have been recorded by Willie Nelson, Tim McGraw, Enrique Iglesias and many others. His Grammy-nominated songs include "The High Cost of Living" and Martina McBride's "In My Daughter's Eyes."
